A perfect anniversary celebration should start in the weeks leading up to the date, with little clues being left about what the surprise is, and how wonderful it’s going to be for the day to be spent together celebrating the romance of their wedding day. Whether you leave little sticky note clues about, or write messages in the steam on the bathroom mirror, or leave little cards with secret messages on, or even send postcards to her at work, it all builds up the romance and suspense of the occasion.

Every hightened emotion makes the day more special. Building up the surprise to a special anniversary event is a great thing to do. So what should the best surprise be? A night away, or a weekend at a special hotel. Perhaps one you went to in the early days of your romance? There are some lovely hotels that are adult only so you get away from the kids completely,

First though you could start the day off with a lovely breakfast in bed surprise, croissants, jam and fresh coffee can be such a decadent breakfast when eaten in bed.

Bringing a red rose and an anniversary card and a group of tiny presents would make the perfect start to the day. Whether she gets flowers at work is entirely up to you, but it’s such a romantic gesture that you will find her talking about it for months, and her friends will be very jealous of what a perfect romantic husband she has got.

Taking her out for a romantic dinner is also a special ending to the day. Tell the restaurant that it’s a special occasion and they will often throw in a complementary bottle of wine or some other nice gesture that will make the both of you feel special.
